Microsoft Teams is a chat-based collaboration tool that allows global, remote, and dispersed teams with the ability to work together and share information via a common space. Users can utilize interactive features like document collaboration, one-on-one chat, team chat, and more.

How to use Live Captions in a Live Event : Microsoft Teams

Event organizers are provided with a list of 50 languages from which specific language can be selected for Live Captioning .

Upto 50 LanguagesLive Event participants can view Live captions and subtitles in 6 different languages in addition to the language being spoken in the event.

How Organizers setup Live Captions and Subtitles in Microsoft Teams

To set up Live Captions and Subtitles for an event , Organizers have to select the Captions box when they are scheduling the event.

Organizers can choose Live event production type and select Translate to, add up to six languages where attendees can choose the preferred language from the menu.

Ex: If the spoken language is English and the attendees are from Spain then (Spanish language)can be chosen for Captions and Subtitles.

Supported translation languages include Afrikaans, Arabic, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified, PRC), Creole, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Klingon, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malagasy, Malay, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Queretaro Otomi, Romanian, Russian, Samoan, Serbian (Latin), Serbian Cyrillic, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tahitian, Thai, Tongan, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese, Welsh, and Yucatec Maya.

Once the live event is finished , users can click Calendar in Microsoft Teams and look up the live event. Users can find Transcripts below the Live Event resources. Transcript of captions and subtitles for each selected language can be seen. Select Download to download the transcripts.

How Producers use Live Captions and Subtitles

Producers will have a full control over the Settings and control the live captions and subtitles for the event.

My Live Captions allows Producers to turn Live Captions and Subtitles on and off

Attendee Live captions allows Producers to enable or disable attendee live captions and subtitles,Whenever a change is made in the Setting , a notification will be sent to the Attendees.

How Attendees use Live Captions

If attendees like to turn on Live Captions and Subtitles , select Captions/Subtitles that appear on the screen.

To change the Caption Language , attendees are advised to select Settings -> Captions / Subtitles, and choose the language they want.

It helps people with hearing problems , eradicate the noisy environment issues and people who are not native in English can read captions , hence there is no language barrier.
